BAFAW VILLAGES

Dieka

Found near the banks of the Meme river, Dieka is a Bafaw village shrouded in an aura of mystery. Legend whispers of Motuba Diki, a man of courage and determination, who led his people to this fertile valley. Upon arriving, it is said that Motuba Diki, surveying the lush landscape, exclaimed, "Si dike fan!" - "Let us stay here!" - a phrase that shortened into the village’s name, forever etching itself into the annals of Bafaw history.

Dieka Village

However, another version of the tale speaks of a different past. Some claim that Dieka was once a thriving Mbonge settlement, its name a testament to their prior presence. In their westward migration, the Bafaw encountered this established village and, through military force, asserted their dominance, ultimately integrating Dieka into Bafaw territory.

Regardless of its origins, Dieka has played a significant role in the Bafaw narrative. The village has witnessed generations come and go, each leaving their mark on the land.

Today, however, Dieka finds itself in a period of transition. The absence of a chief leaves a void in leadership, with the weight of governance resting on the shoulders of the traditional council. Yet, the spirit of the Bafaw people endures, a resilient force that as weathered countless storms throughout history. As the council navigates the challenges of the present, they carry with them the echoes of the past, the whispers of Motuba Diki, and the hopes for a future where Dieka once again flourishes as a vibrant hub of Bafaw culture and community.
